About Alameda
Alameda, with a population of 76,459
(2000 census) is a dynamic San Francisco Bay Area city. Alameda grew
nearly 20% from 1980 to 1990.
"Over 48% of Alameda households have annual incomes over $50,000.
The average household income is $68,376. Within a five-mile radius,
70,000 people hold a Bachelor's Degree or better, and 62,500

grocery/drug items $230 million, home electronics over $14 million,

Education
98% of Alameda high school students complete all four years.
Approximately 65% of residents over 25 are college-educated, and 40%

Alameda is served by AC Transit, BART shuttle service, and two ferry
systems. The Oakland International Airport is immediately adjacent
to Alameda. The community is accessible from Highway 880 via four
bridges and from the Oakland/Jack London Square area by tunnels
running beneath the estuary.
Alameda's compact geography, in addition to its bicycle and
pedestrian-friendly amenities, encourages alternative transportation
within Alameda.

The vacancy rate in Alameda is under 5%. There are 14,800 rental

The shoreline parks along the San Francisco Bay and the San Leandro
Marina extend for over six miles, offering spectacular views of the
San Francisco skyline and the East Bay hills. Marinas abound, with
over a dozen yacht brokers, a half dozen yacht clubs and over 3,400
boat slips and dry boat storage spaces, more than any other
community in the Bay Area, second in the nation to Marina Del Ray.
Arts
Alameda hosts several of its own community arts including; theater,
a civic light opera, a community band, a historical museum, cultural
activities and a diverse community of musicians, writers,
craftspersons and artists. Alameda is within minutes of the
galleries, museums, theaters, symphony, ballet and opera in San
Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley.
