About Novato California 

Novato is Marin County’s northernmost city, located on Highway 101 north of San Francisco. The town of Novato has a rural atmosphere and is home to 27 parks and many open spaces, with plenty of outdoor recreational activities available. Olompali State Historic Park is situated three miles north of Novato and overlooks the picturesque Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay. Several preserved historical buildings are located inside the park, and trails are available for hiking and horseback riding, as well as shaded picnic areas. Miwok Park and Marin Museum of the American Indian is also located in Novato. This 35-acre shady park is built around a museum that offers group tours, nature walks and “hands-on” programs. The museum gallery mainly houses exhibits of the Coastal Miwok and Pomo Indian Cultures. Stafford Lake Park lies three miles east of Novato; a 139-acre park with lake fishing, a nature trail, picnic areas, lawn areas, a children’s play area, volleyball and horseshoe courts. Two challenging golf courses in Novato offer scenic vistas of the hills beyond, and Sears Point Raceway, North America’s most complete motorsports complex is located just 15 minutes east of the city on Highway 37. This is just a sampling of the kind of attractions you will find in this versatile town. There are also major special events held here each year, such as the Novato Festival of Art, Wine and Music each June, and concerts in the park throughout the summer months. Novato is also just a short drive to San Francisco and the Napa/Sonoma Valley Wine Country.
