About Saratoga 

Saratoga: Originally a community of summer cottages built in and around the area’s fruit orchards, Saratoga has grown into a popular residential destination that includes a variety of residential styles: from sprawling California ranches to turn-of-the-century two-story homes as well as many magnificent estates. Located southwest of San Jose along the rolling foothills of the Silicon Valley, Saratoga is well known for its superior schools, low crime rate and charming village area. The town offers residents a tranquil lifestyle with plenty of artistic endeavors, including summer concerts. Saratoga is situated at the entrance to a historic pass in the redwood-forested Santa Cruz Mountains. Although the incorporated City of Saratoga dates back only to 1956, the town had its beginning more than a century earlier when William Campbell built a sawmill in 1848, about 2 1/2 miles above the present village, along what is now Highway 9. The area's earliest inhabitants had been Indians, who built homes near the mouth of the canyon at what an early map noted as Campbell's Gap. Today, with a population of nearly 30,000, Saratoga proudly preserves its pioneer heritage.
